Description

Abstract An extension to the GEANT software package is presented, which introduces spin for elastic n-p scattering in the 1–500 MeV energy range. With this extension, the asymmetry due to the analyzing power of the mentioned interaction can be simulated, and is applied in the optimization of the figure-of-merit of a neutron polarimeter. Title of program: SAIDINTF Catalogue Id: ACLS_v1_0 Nature of problem The GEANT package has proven to be very useful in simulating the behaviour of a neutron polarimeter. However, GEANT lacks the treatment of polarization in elastic nucleon-nucleon scattering channels. Therefore, polarization was introduced for elastic neutron-proton scattering processes which are treated within the core of the GEANT hadronic interaction software.
