Description

Abstract A function of 4 variables is defined, which is the solution of the Raman-Nath equations. These are a system of infinite coupled differential equations used to describe the diffraction of light from acoustic waves (or thick gratings), or in the theory of the free electron laser, or the interaction of radiation with multilevel systems. It can be adapted to more general cases (electrons or X-rays in crystals, calculation of Mathieu functions). Title of program: RANA Catalogue Id: ACNM_v1_0 Nature of problem Evolution of a wave in a sinusoidal potential. In particular, diffraction of a wave from a thick sinusoidal grating or acoustic wave. Also used in the theory of the free electron laser and in interaction of radiation with multilevel material system.
